World Book Day is always one of the most anticipated dates on our school calendar. It is a day where the magic of storytelling jumps off the page and into our classrooms and home. For our learners, this celebration is about far more than just books; it is a gateway to communication, imagination, and sensory exploration.
Costumes, Characters, and Choice
The day began with a fantastic array of costumes as both staff and our children and young people dressed as their favourite literary characters. From classic fairy tale figures to modern-day heroes, the variety was a wonderful display of Individual Liberty. Allowing our young people to choose their own characters encourages self-expression and builds confidence, turning the school into a living library of diverse personalities.
Sensory Storytelling and Tuff Trays
To ensure World Book Day is accessible for all, we moved beyond traditional reading and focused on sensory storytelling. Our “tuff trays” were transformed into mini-worlds from popular books. These tactile experiences allow our learners to engage with narratives through touch, smell, and sight, making the stories tangible and memorable.
World Book Day reminds us that every child and young person has a story to tell, and we are here to provide them with the tools, textures, and technology to share it with the world.
