Choice, Exploration, and Seaside Smiles: Our End-of-Year Class Trips!

As another fantastic school year comes to a close, it is time to celebrate all the hard work, growth, and achievements of our children and young people. To wrap up the term in style, our young people got to take part in an extra-special end-of-year class trip.

At Witham Prospect School, empowering our young people to make their own decisions is a core part of everything we do. So, when planning our end-of-year celebration, we put the power of choice directly into their hands!

Empowering Learner Choice

Rather than choosing one single destination for everyone, our young people were presented with two exciting options: a day of marine discovery at Skegness Aquarium or a wild animal adventure at Lincoln Zoo.

Giving our young people the freedom to choose where they wanted to go exercised their Individual Liberty and ensured that every learner was genuinely excited for their chosen day out. Our dedicated teams split into two groups, ensuring tailored support and personalised schedules for both destinations.

Option 1: Under the Sea at Skegness Aquarium

For those who chose the coast, Skegness Aquarium offered an immersive, sensory-rich paradise! The young people had a brilliant time wandering through the underwater tunnels, watching colourful tropical fish swim overhead, and getting up close to stingrays and sharks.

The calm, ambient lighting and gentle movement of the water tanks provided a wonderfully soothing sensory environment, allowing our learners to engage with marine life at their own comfortable pace. No seaside trip is complete without a bit of tradition, so the group made sure to enjoy some delicious ice cream while soaking in the fresh coastal air!

Option 2: Wild Adventures at Lincoln Zoo

Meanwhile, our wildlife enthusiasts headed to Lincoln Zoo for a day packed with curious creatures and outdoor discovery. Our young people loved exploring the open spaces, following the footpaths to spot everything from playful meerkats to grand exotic birds.

Visiting the zoo offered fantastic opportunities for practical learning and communication. Our young people used their preferred communication aids to identify different animals, discuss what the animals were eating, and share their excitement with their peers and support teams.

Celebrating a Fantastic Year Together

While our young people split into two different directions for the day, both groups returned to Witham Prospect School with the exact same thing: huge smiles, wonderful stories, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Seeing our children and young people navigate public spaces with growing confidence, express their personal preferences, and share joyful experiences with their friends is the absolute best way to end the school term.

A massive thank you to our amazing care and education teams for organising two seamless, safe, and wildly fun trips, and a huge well done to all our young people for a fantastic school year!
