Community Lights: Celebrating Bonfire Night!
Bonfire Night is a highlight of the autumn calendar, full of sparkling lights, vibrant colours, and exciting sounds! This year, we ensured our children and young people had diverse opportunities to experience the festivities in a way that best suited their sensory and social needs.
In the Heart of the Community: The Green Man Fireworks
We were delighted that some of our children and young people, supported by familiar staff, chose to attend the popular local display at The Green Man. This provided a fantastic opportunity for them to engage with the wider community, practice social skills, and manage sensory input in a busy environment—all while enjoying the spectacle of a professional fireworks show! Experiencing community events is a vital part of their journey towards Independence and Preparation for Adulthood.
Exploring Other Local Displays
Recognising that everyone has unique preferences and tolerance levels, others opted to attend different, smaller/bigger community events across the region. With dedicated support, these children and young people were able to access local celebrations that might have offered a quieter atmosphere or a different kind of experience that they felt more comfortable with.
Whether they were watching the grand finale at The Green Man or enjoying the warm glow of a local display, Bonfire Night was a success. It showcased the importance of choice-making and the ability to access and enjoy community life, ensuring that everyone found their perfect spot to celebrate the light and sound of the season!
